Pre-Med Pathways: Marian University Preparatory School’s February Hybrid Day

Stories & Spotlights

Pre-med students received hands-on learning experiences, in-person mentorship, and early exposure to college through MU Prep.

Hands-On Pre-Med Experiences

Students began their day in Marian Hall Laboratory, where they participated in a microscope lab. There, they examined specimens up close, enhancing their scientific research and laboratory skills. This hands-on experience is essential for pre-med, nursing, or biomedical sciences students, helping them develop the foundational knowledge needed for college-level coursework.

After their lab session, students attended Mass at Marian University’s St. Joseph Chapel, integrating faith and education as they reflected on their academic and career journeys.

Following lunch at the Dining Commons, students embarked on a guided tour of the Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine, where they engaged with current medical students and faculty. A highlight of the experience was the Hill-Rom Simulation Center, where students interacted with medical simulators that provided a realistic preview of patient care, medical diagnostics, and healthcare procedures. This exposure is invaluable for students interested in pursuing pre-med and health sciences degrees.

Student Perspectives on Hybrid Day

For many MU Prep students, Hybrid Day serves as a bridge to college readiness, offering firsthand experience in university settings and professional fields. One student shared their excitement:

“I really loved today’s Marian University tour,” shared a current MU Prep student. “I enjoyed looking at the specimens under a microscope and reading for Mass. I would love to be in their Nursing Program, so I would like to know how to contact the professors and tour guides. I will definitely be going to the next Hybrid Day!”

This kind of enthusiasm highlights the impact of early exposure to medical education, helping students feel more confident in their pre-med aspirations. By connecting with faculty and professionals, MU Prep students take proactive steps toward their college readiness and future careers in healthcare.
