From Frustration to Flourishing: A Parent’s Perspective on Marian University Preparatory School
Embracing Virtual Education – One Parent’s Quest to Find a School That Enables His Child to Succeed
As a parent, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing your child thrive—and nothing more frustrating than watching them struggle. When we found Marian University Preparatory School in October, it felt like an answer to our prayers. In just a few short months, my son’s transformation has been nothing short of remarkable.
Before MU Prep, my son was stuck in a chaotic educational environment. The school he was attending closed, restructured, and reopened, but the transition was a mess. He was in eighth grade but was inexplicably placed in fifth-grade classes. Lessons were rushed and shallow, and he was becoming more disengaged by the day.
Exploring Alternative Options
When I began searching for alternatives, I was frustrated and desperate. I called different online schools, trying to find one that would meet my son’s needs. Then, what I can only describe as divine providence occurred—I found Marian University Preparatory School. During one of those calls, I was connected directly to Joe Heidt, the Executive Director. It was a random connection, but it changed everything.
Since enrolling, I’ve witnessed my son changing in real time. The lessons at MU Prep actually stick. He reiterates concepts he’s learned, often right in the middle of our daily conversations. This wasn’t something we’d seen before—at his previous school, it could take months before concepts began to sink in, if they ever did.
A New Academic Structure
The structure of MU Prep’s lessons is a game-changer. For example, in math, the lessons include about a dozen slides followed by 15–20 practice questions before the quiz. This gives him ample time to absorb and apply the concepts. At his old school, math lessons consisted of just five slides and two examples before jumping into the quiz. It wasn’t enough for him to grasp the material, and everything moved too quickly.
What I truly appreciate is how MU Prep’s approach gives each lesson time to breathe. My son has time to read, practice, and evaluate his knowledge before moving on. This feels like what you’d expect from a quality education, but sadly, it’s not always the case. Even private tutors we’ve worked with in the past often moved too quickly for concepts to take root.
Improvements Beyond the Classroom

Beyond academics, MU Prep has been a blessing for my son’s emotional well-being. He’s struggled with severe anxiety since third grade. Yet, in this environment, he feels safe, supported, and able to learn at his own pace.
As a parent, I’m incredibly grateful for Marian University Preparatory School. It has given my son not just an education but the confidence and tools to succeed. For any family seeking a school that meets your child where they are and truly invests in their success, I can’t recommend MU Prep enough. It’s been a life-changing experience for our family.
