At Marian University Preparatory School, we believe in empowering students to explore their passions and chart their own pathways to success. Our recent November Hybrid Experience Day, held at Marian University’s School of Business and Witchger School of Engineering, exemplified this commitment by providing high school students with hands-on exposure to potential career opportunities. The day was filled with learning, discovery, and meaningful interactions with industry professionals—laying a strong foundation for informed decision-making about life after graduation.

A Day of Exploration and Inspiration

Providing a recurring Hybrid Days a hallmark of our educational model for our students who are interested in experiencing blended virtual learning with in-person experiences that foster connection and practical knowledge. This month’s focus on engineering and business was designed to introduce students to the diverse possibilities within both dynamic fields.

From interactive demonstrations in robotics and sustainable design to engaging conversations with Marian University’s business and engineering faculty and students, participants gained insight into how their studies could translate into impactful careers. They explored state-of-the-art labs, experimented with real-world business and engineering problem-solving techniques, and learned about the educational pathways leading to careers in engineering.

“At Marian University Preparatory School, we strive to provide our students with opportunities that prepare them not just for graduation, but for meaningful futures,” said Joe Heidt, Executive Director of Marian University Preparatory School. “Exposing students to real-world environments like the Marian University’s School of Business and Witchger School of Engineering helps them see how their passions align with potential career paths, giving them a head start on their journey to success.”

The Value of Early Career Exposure

Research shows that early exposure to job and career opportunities can have a significant impact on a student’s academic and professional trajectory. By engaging with professionals, experiencing innovative workspaces, and understanding the skills needed for success, students are better equipped to make informed decisions about their futures.

Such exposure not only helps students identify potential career interests but also builds their confidence in navigating post-graduation pathways. When students see firsthand how their classroom knowledge applies to real-world scenarios, they gain a deeper understanding of the relevance of their education and are motivated to set meaningful goals.

For many students, experiences like a Hybrid Experience Day provide a spark of inspiration that ignites their passion for a particular field or discipline. These moments can shape their decision to pursue internships, specialized programs, or higher education opportunities that align with their career aspirations. Furthermore, students who have access to early career exposure are more likely to develop critical soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and adaptability—qualities that are essential for success in today’s competitive workforce.

At Marian University Preparatory School, we recognize that early career exploration is not just about imagining the future; it’s about building a tangible roadmap to get there. By integrating these experiences into our Hybrid Experience Days, we’re equipping students with the tools, insights, and connections they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

The Impact of the Experience on Students

Incorporating Hybrid Experience Days enhances curriculum by bringing the lessons out of the classroom, showcasing the practical application of what they’re learning and how it connects it to real-world careers and opportunities.  By engaging in hands-on activities, such as designing simple circuits or programming robotic systems, students were able to visualize themselves in roles they might never have considered before. This kind of immersive learning fosters curiosity and helps students uncover talents and interests they didn’t know they had.

For some, the day confirmed existing aspirations, giving them a clearer sense of direction and purpose. For others, it broadened their horizons, introducing them to career paths and fields they had not previously explored.

Beyond technical skills, students also developed a deeper appreciation for collaboration and problem-solving. Working alongside peers and hearing from Marian University faculty and industry professionals emphasized the importance of teamwork and innovation in building a successful career.

Parents also noted the transformative impact the day had on their children:

“Our family has a homeschool background, so learning has always been a passion within our home,” shared a mother and learning coach for three students enrolled in MU Prep. “The Hybrid Experience Days are what initially drew me to MU Prep—the opportunity for a learning experience that wasn’t just online. As a family, we successfully utilized online education, but the Hybrid Experience Days really stood out to me. I am not aware of any other academic program like this, combining the flexibility of online learning with a sense of community through in-person events. I knew my children would enjoy it, and they absolutely do.”

Empowering Your Child’s Academic Success

At Marian University Preparatory School, these experiences are designed to do more than inform—they’re meant to inspire, equip, and empower students to pursue their dreams with confidence and purpose. By connecting academic learning with career exploration, we ensure that our students are not only prepared for graduation but also for the opportunities that lie ahead.

Hybrid Experience Days are just one way Marian University Preparatory School bridges the gap between academics and real-world applications. By immersing students in experiences like this, we’re helping them build confidence, foster curiosity, and take the first steps toward fulfilling careers.
